FIRST CONVOCATION ON JULY 27 2019 : REGISTRATION


St. Xavier's University, Kolkata will have its First Convocation on July 27 2019 for all the Post Graduate students who passed out in 2019. Convocation address will be delivered by Mr. Shashi Tharoor, a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha.

Each student is required to register for attending the convocation. They may also bring the Parents. Email has been sent to each student with the programme details.

As there are many enquiries with respect to Law Admission, St. Xavier's University, Kolkata is opening the 2nd Phase of admission process for Xavier Law School to facilitate the candidates who could not apply and those who could not appear for XLAT - 2019 held on 14th July, 2019.

First Convocation on July 27, 2019

 

St. Xavier's University, Kolkata will confer postgraduate degrees on 142 students at its first annual convocation to be held on July 27.
In its inaugural year 2017, the university had started postgraduate courses in four subjects - English, Mass communication, Social Work and Commerce. The university has nearly 350 postgraduate students at present.
Bengal governor and the visitor of the university will be present at the convocation. Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament, will deliver the convocation address.
St. Xavier's University, Kolkata equipped with all modern facilities, had to increase its total seats in undergraduate and postgraduate courses together from 400 in the first year to 1,100 in the following year. In the 2019 current session the total seats will be almost 2,500.
Undergraduate courses are offered in five subjects at present with a Morning Section for B.Com. The subjects are Commerce, Management Studies, Economics, English and Mass Communication.

A Xaverian Interdisciplinary Journal

 

St. Xavier's University, Kolkata, is pleased to announce the launch of Nihil Ultra: A Xaverian Interdisciplinary Journal. A peer-reviewed journal committed to the highest standard of excellence in interdisciplinary research, Nihil Ultra shall comprise of research articles, reviews, case studies, and critical commentaries. Contributions shall be accepted from St. Xavier's faculty and students as well as from the broader academic community in India and abroad.

We look forward to research articles exploring the following fields as well as their interstices: English, Social Work, Mass Communication, Economics, Commerce and Management, Business Administration, and Law. Contact details as well as submission dates and guidelines shall be announced shortly.

Xavrang '19

Usha Uthup, the legendary singer, was at St. Xavier's University, Kolkata (SXUK) on the occasion of Xavrang'19, the Students' Fest.
She enthralled the student audience with her melodious songs.
Even Gods could not resist, the heavens opened and heavy showers stopped the performances on the 5th and 6th.
The Local Train, the Indian Rock Band, will perform again on April 16 evening.

Neighbourhood Service:

St. Xavier's University students continue their committed service to the neighbourhood children. Every weekend (Saturdays and Sundays) a group of enthusiastic students from the University visit the local villages - Kathalberia and Kulberia, under Beonta Panchayat of Bhangar II Block (South 24 Parganas District) and teach the young children of various governments run primary schools, to impart quality education to them. Another group of our students have been carrying out a noble drive by running Spoken English Classes at the University Campus for the older students especially those who attend secondary schools/colleges. These students generally come from Dharmatala-Panchuria Village.Both these activities are being fully managed by the students themselves and the overall impact appears to be highly positive, a fruitful experience for both university students as well as village children. It has brought a new ray of hope among the village people, school teachers and leaders. - Paritosh Majumdar

St. Xavier's University, Kolkata celebrated its third Foundation Day on February 8, 2019. Hon'ble Governor of West Bengal, Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi was the Chief Guest and Prof. Parth Pratim Chakrabarti, Director of IIT Karagpur, the Guest of Honour.
The Central Library Building named after Fr. Pedro Arrupe, a former General of the Jesuit Order, was inaugurated by the Governor. The Arrupe Building houses the spacious central lending library and a reading room. It will have law and Management libraries respectively. St. Xavier's University's first Annual Sports Day was celebrated on Saturday, February 2 with total participation and great enthusiasm. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Shri Sujit Bose, the Hon'ble Minister for Fire and Emergency Services, Government of West Bengal.
The Class-wise Parade by students was colourful and thematic. The playground was overflowing with team spirit, zeal and excitement. The presence and the active participation of teachers boosted the spirit of students.View Gallery
