Inauguration of University Basketball Court

St. Xavier's University basket ball court was inaugurated on 12th September by Rev. Dr. Felix Raj, Vice Chancellor of the University in the presence of the Rector and Deputy Principal of St. Xavier's College, Rev. Dr. Dominic Savio and other dignitaries.
On this occasion a basket ball match was organised between B.Com. and B.MS.. students of the University under the supervision of Ms. Feroza Mongrelia, Sports Director, and her team members of the College.   View Programme Details

Apostolic Nuncio, Vatican Ambassador to India

Apostolic Nuncio, Vatican Ambassador to India, His Excellency Giambattista Diquattro, visited St. Xavier's University, Kolkata on 7th September.

He was accompanied by His Grace Most Reverend Thomas D'Souza, Archbishop of Kolkata and other dignitaries. He had breakfast with Jesuit Fathers and University authorities.
He appreciated the Jesuit initiative toward building of the University and appreciated his full support.

Inauguration of Kolkata Campus and Commencement of First Academic Session

The inauguration ceremony of St. Xavier's University Kolkata took place on 7th July 2017. The momentous occasion was graced by the Hon'ble Chief Minister Ms.Mamata Banerjee, Hon'ble Education Minister Dr. Partha Chatterjee, Mr.Lakshmi Niwas Mittal, the Chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal, Mrs.Usha Mittal, Hon'ble Chancellor Father Jeyaraj Veluswamy, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor Father Felix Raj, Hon'ble Rector Fr. Dominic Savio and several other dignitaries.

Mr. Mittal articulated his experiences as a student of St. Xavier's College and the lesson of decision making he learnt from his Alma Mater. He has since secured emotional and moral assurance on numerous occasions of his business career from the values St. Xavier's inculcated in him. The Chief Minister congratulated the Jesuits for setting up yet another seat of higher learning of strong ethical and aesthetic virtues, she highlighted the contributions of St. Xavier's towards the academic, cultural and social endorsements of West Bengal. She expressed her firm belief that like Harvard and Oxford, St. Xavier's University Kolkata will soon be of global significance, thriving on the principles of faith and wisdom. more...

Lecture on 'Leadership in Education' in the Department of Education - A report

Honourable Vice-Chancellor of the West Bengal University of Teachers' Training, Education Planning and Administration, Prof. Mita Banerjee delivered a lecture on 'Leadership in Education' in the Department of Education of St. Xavier's College, Kolkata (Autonomous) on the 19th of June 2017. The Principals and Teachers of various educational institutions of Kolkata attended the lecture. This was a unique venture initiated by the Education Department of the college especially for the in-service teachers.
The session began with a warm welcome address by Father Principal, followed by a brief overview of the achievements and contributions of Professor Mita Banerjee by the Vice-Principal of the Department of Education.
Professor Mita Banerjee highlighted on extending leadership beyond the periphery of the class room. She also enlightened on the practical strategies of an effective leader. The lecture was followed by an interactive session on Leadership in Education.
The lecture by Professor Mita Banerjee was very motivating and enriching for the audience.

Donation of an Ambulance

The Khadim India Limited (KIL) has donated an ambulance to St. Xavier's College Kolkata Educational Trust (SXCKET), the Sponsoring Body of both the College and the University for their use. Mr. Suman Burman Roy, President, KIL, delivered the van and handed over the keys and the relevant documents to Father Felix Raj, the Principal on May 27 evening. Fr. Raj expressed Xavier's gratitude to Mr. Roy and his company for the generous grant. Father also promised Mr. Roy that the ambulance would be put to its full use to save lives of staff, students and others in their hour of need.

New Jesuit Provincial

11 May 2017 : Fr. Raphael Hyde, S.J., the present Rector of St. Lawrence High School has been appointed Provincial of the Calcutta Jesuit Province by Rev. Fr. General, Arturo Sosa, S.J. We congratulate Fr. Raphael Hyde, S.J. and assure him of our prayerful support.

As Provincial, he will be the Ex-Officio President of St. Xavier's College Kolkata Educational Trust, President of the Governing Body of St. Xavier's College and the Chancellor of St. Xavier's University, Kolkata.

St. Xavier's University holds its first board meeting

St. Xavier's University gets vice-chancellor

16 Feb 2017 : Father Felix Raj, SJ, the principal of St. Xavier's College, Kolkata is the first Vice-Chancellor of St. Xavier's University, Kolkata.
"As Vice-Chancellor, my first task will be to form the Governing Board of the university, which will consist of 36 members," Felix Raj said, adding that he would take over the reins of the Rajarhat University with "immediate effect". more...

16 Dec 2016 : The St. Xavier's University, Kolkata T Bill 2016 was passed unanimously on December 15 in the West Bengal Assembly, paving the way for a new university at New Town, Rajarhat, to meet the growing need for quality facilities and to encourage private investment in the state's Higher Education.
